CHARLIE Davis reckons it would take “something big” to prise any of the Dorchester Town players away from the Avenue such is the togetherness in the squad at present.

The midfielder, who notched his seventh goal of the season in the win against Bedworth, says the unity in the Magpies’ changing room is unlike anything he has experienced before.

Summer recruit Davis, 20, also believes the county town club is now “very different” compared to his brief spell with Dorchester under Graham Kemp last season.

“I can only thank Graham for giving me that opportunity when I was here before because I think that stood me in good stead for when I came back in pre-season,” he told Echosport.

“The whole never-say-die thing that the lads have built into themselves and that the manager drives into us is amazing.

“It was very different last year. There wasn’t the belief that if we did go a goal down then we could get one back.

“The unity within our squad is second to none and I’ve never been in a changing room where everyone gets on as well.

"I think it would take something big to drag one of the lads away from here.

“It would take a lot of money and a chance to move up the leagues or go full-time to get someone out of here. I don’t think any other team in this league could offer someone more money and it would make them go.”

Davis feels Dorchester have enough ability in their ranks to push for the play-offs this term and believes they would “under-achieve” if they didn’t make it.

And speaking about what moving to the Avenue in the summer has done for him, he added: “I lacked confidence when I came here last season. I felt I wasn’t good enough to play in the league because I wasn’t playing for Poole.

“But the manager's pushing me to not just be a player who starts every week but someone who can make things happen in games."

“Hopefully with the goals I’ve scored I’m repaying his faith.”

Dorchester’s reserves go to Romsey Town tonight in the John Stimpson Memorial Shield (7.45pm).
