DORCHESTER Town tonight completed the signing of midfielder Luke Holmes, the son of former Avenue favourite Matty Holmes.

The teenager, whose dad played alongside current Magpies’ boss Mark Jermyn during a four-year spell at Dorchester, joins from Wimborne Town.

And in Jermyn’s eyes, the 18-year-old is someone who fits the bill when it comes to the player-manager’s future plans.

“We are taking steps to build something over the next couple of years and Luke is another young player who can be a part of that,” said Jermyn, whose side host Hungerford Town in the league tomorrow (3pm).

“We spoke to Luke and I think he could see what we are trying to achieve here so he decided to come to us.

“Luke is very good on the ball and a little bit different to what we have got at the moment.

“He plays in that number 10 role and gets things going, but I think he can play anywhere in the centre of the park.”

Holmes' availability for the visit of Hungerford is subject to his league registration going through on time.

A win for the Magpies on Saturday could potentially see them nudge the Crusaders out of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-off places.

However, Jermyn is aware of the threats the visitors pose, adding: “They are always one of the strongest teams in the league and I expect them to be right up there this season.

“Their manager has instilled a really good work ethic in them and some of their players have been together for a while now.

“They will know what their strengths and weaknesses are as a result.”

Dorchester won the reverse fixture back in August 3-2.
