TODAY’S clash with Histon is a “potential banana skin” for Dorchester Town, according to boss Mark Jermyn.

The Stutes are two points above the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division relegation zone after just one win in their last eight league games.

They conceded seven against leaders Poole Town at home on Tuesday – they shipped five inside the first 20 minutes.

However, as Jermyn knows, there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal, and Histon, who the Magpies face in Cambridgeshire this afternoon (3pm), are fighting for their lives.

“Playing Histon is a potential banana skin for us because they are struggling and really fighting to get themselves going again,” he said.

“They are looking to do that in every game so whoever they play next is going to come under pressure, and they will throw everything at us in the first 30 minutes.

“But we do our homework for every game we play and we look to prepare the lads in the right way, and I don’t see this weekend being any different.”

Reflecting on his side’s midweek defeat to Hitchin, player-manager Jermyn added: “I was very disappointed that we didn’t get ourselves back into the game after going a goal behind.

“In a few games this season we have scored and then the other team have equalised before getting another a couple of minutes later – we’ve got to learn how to do that.

“We’re just lacking that bit of finesse at the moment. We’ve got some fantastic footballers but they’re just not sparking.

“We just need to make sure we take the positives out of each game, and the positive from the last game was that we were a little bit better than the one before.”

Meanwhile, Dorchester Town Reserves lost 5-2 at United Services Portsmouth in the Wyvern Premier Division on Thursday night.
