MIDFIELDER Charlie Davis believes there are encouraging signs for the Magpies in their quest to claim a top-five berth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

As well as the fact they are three league games unbeaten, Davis was buoyed by his side’s performance at Frome last week, and the impact of substitutes Jonah Ayunga and Liam Sayers.

With last night’s trip to Kettering postponed, Dorchester will look to extend their run to four without defeat against Cambridge City on Saturday.

And Davis is going to be hoping he and his team-mates can come up with a repeat of the display they produced in winning 3-0 in Somerset seven days ago.

“We are three unbeaten now and I think the match against Frome last Wednesday showed how far we’ve come in terms of getting the ball down and getting games won,” he said.

“It was as comfortable as games go in our league, and it was on a really heavy pitch.

“We scored at just the right time in the first half and given the number of times Frome have gone behind this season they were always going to find it difficult.

“We went into the second half and made it 2-0 at a crucial time.”

He added: “One thing now is that we can bring people like Jonah Ayunga off the bench and you could see how refreshed he is having not started.

“Liam Sayers did the same and all of that shows we’ve got a bit of strength in depth now.

“Overall, as a team, we are relatively happy with where we are.

“We’re going into matches not worried about anyone, although with the pitches as they are we know we need to adapt our game to the conditions.”

n Dorchester’s reserves are set to go to Wimborne in the Wyvern Premier Division tonight (7.45pm).
