STUART Heath believes Dorchester Town have the ability to come in under the radar and grab a play-off place this term.

While insisting there is “no pressure on us to get into the play-offs” the Magpies’ first-team coach reckons the squad the Avenue outfit have assembled is more than capable on current form, having won three out of four league outings in January.

Dorchester currently occupy ninth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, poised to pounce just five points off the top five.

Heath told Echosport: “We are where we want to be in the league table which is just below the play-offs going into the last third of the season.

“There is always a team around where you can see they play without pressure in the last third of the season. They get good results, go on a fantastic run, and slip into the play-offs under the radar.

“Our aim is to be that team. It’s just potential now but we have got to try and make it happen.

“We feel a lot of our players are hitting top form just at the right time."

He added: “There is really no pressure on us to get into the play-offs, whereas for the teams above us, there certainly is. There is no reason why we can’t use that to our advantage.

“It’s just a case of really going for it in this last third of the season and just seeing where it takes us.”

The Magpies' next test comes tonight at the Avenue (7.45pm) where Cirencester Town are the visitors, the side that knocked Dorchester out of this season’s FA Cup in a replay back in September.

Heath added: “I do feel we are a much better team now than when we played Cirencester earlier in the season. It’s a good time to prove that. They really made us pay in the cup from set-pieces, so we need to be aware of that and make sure we are fully organised.”

New county town striker Toby Holmes, who scored his first league goal for Poole against Cirencester earlier this season, is expected to be named in the hosts’ squad.
