DORCHESTER Town chief Mark Jermyn insists that the majority of his squad are now “playing for their futures” at the club next season.

The county town boss was left to watch his side slump to a 2-1 defeat against bottom club Bideford on Tuesday and apologised to the club’s supporters after what he described as an “inept” display against the Robins.

And the Avenue player-manager has ramped up the pressure on his players to deliver a performance tomorrow when they head to King’s Lynn Town (3pm).

He said: “We will certainly be talking to people that we want to keep for next season. The players that we don’t have conversations with, they really need to pull something out the bag for the rest of the season.

“Now, they are playing for their futures.

“It’s not just about the results, it’s about if they are going to be here next season and it will be on a week-to-week basis.

“Some people probably won’t see out the season now. It’s up to them to keep themselves here and it’s as simple as that.”

He added: “We are looking at the next couple of years now and, obviously, this is my first full year in management so, hopefully, people won’t be too harsh to judge me this year.

“Certainly in the next couple of years I am going to be heavily judged. I have been judged over the last couple of losses now and rightly so. People can start to be critical because we are at the business end.

“We have now got to come out and work hard every week.

“Everybody is up at the end of the season and, at the moment there are probably a couple of people who can be assured that they will be here next season but, as for everybody else, everybody now is fighting to stay at Dorchester. That’s my mind on it.

“They have got to show that they want to be here.”

Jermyn himself is set to return after serving a two-game ban. He is also hopeful of having Neil Martin, Matt Oldring and possibly Oakley Hanger back from injury.
