MARK Jermyn was left severely disappointed by his side’s harrowing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Redditch United in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on Saturday.

After the game Jermyn told Echosport that the performance and the result had been on the horizon for a while.

He said: “It’s been coming. We haven’t been at our best for a number of weeks now and I don’t know whether the players have felt that they’ve missed out on the play-offs and there is nothing to play for now.

“But, certainly the way we capitulated in the second half wasn’t great. Some of the players that came on were not good enough in any league let alone this one.

“I am very disappointed, we were lacklustre and we showed minimal effort.”

“There’s a point in the season for ranting and raving and today wasn’t that day.

“We made the players aware of what sort of attitude we want and what we expect because they are playing for their places.”

The Magpies looked shaky at the back throughout and Jermyn acknowledges that signings will have to be made in the summer.

“Defensively, we conceded from three set-pieces, which has been ongoing throughout the season and it has to

stop.

“Next season, We are going to have to bring in players that can clear the ball in those situations because it has been atrocious.”

“It’s not what I expect, the players have been given enough guidance to put on a better display than that.

With little to play for, the manager will look to give some of his fringe players more game time as he starts to mould his squad for next year.

He added: “We are going to have a look at a few players but we certainly don’t want things to continue the way they are.”
