DESPITE the Magpies’ bad run of results, chairman Matt Lucas is right behind his manager Mark Jermyn as his side head to Bedworth Town on Saturday (3pm) in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The county town side have struggled of late, winning just one of their previous six games and will be hoping that the bottom club will be the perfect remedy for their troubles.

The 3G pitch at Bedworth should suit the passing style of the Magpies and results prove they play well on that surface as they showed at Merthyr Town earlier in the season.

They beat the Welsh side 4-2 and will be gunning for a similar score line this weekend.

The Magpies will be buoyed by their recent head-to-head results with the hosts, beating them 3-2 in November, thanks to a late Charlie Davis penalty.

Like Jermyn, Lucas has been disappointed with the side’s form over the last few weeks, but believes the season as a whole has been an improvement.

The chairman said: “Overall, results throughout the season have been encouraging.

“Yes, it’s been disappointing, the results of late. But I still feel that we need to look at the bigger picture and see the improvement that there has been.

“Obviously, it would have been nice to have seen some better performances because we don’t want to peter out.”

After last week’s harrowing defeat at the hands of Redditch United, Jermyn hinted that his players may be feeling less motivated after losing out on a chance at the play-offs.

But the chairman hopes any player that steps out onto the Avenue pitch for the Magpies would be up for the fight.

“Any player that goes out should always give their all, regardless of the situation,” he explained.

“When you put on the shirt of Dorchester Town, you should be proud of wearing that shirt.

“Jem (Jermyn) has said that the players are playing for their place and I can’t imagine many players are feeling safe.”

As reported by Echosport, Jermyn is yet to talk to his players about contracts for next season, but the chairman is happy to support the manager’s decisions.

“He has those he wants to retain and those he doesn’t,” Lucas said. “There is always talk about this with any club at our level or above.

“I am very happy with the management, you’ve got to remember that this is Mark’s first job in this role and I feel as a club we have to encourage and support him.”

There are no new injury concerns heading into the fixture against Bedworth as Jake Smeeton and Shane Murphy continue their recovery from injury.
