DORCHESTER Town boss Mark Jermyn was impressed with his players after their first pre-season session of the campaign.

The players as well as some trialists were worked hard throughout the two-hour session by coach Stuart Heath with the side working on endurance, speed and their ball-work.

It is the start of a hard four weeks of hard graft for the Magpies’ squad, which will include spinning sessions as well as hard runs on the beach.

With only one session down, Jermyn feels his side have kept themselves fit over the summer, and he is excited for the new campaign.

Talking about the session, Jermyn said: “It went really well, I am very pleased.

“Everyone has come back in good shape and we’re already generating a good spirit.

“There’s no egos within the squad, it’s just full of people who want to work hard.

It has been a summer of uncertainty at the Avenue with the Park and Ride scheme coming to an end.

But, now, Jermyn is just as excited about the new season as he was when the Magpies were threatening the play-offs in January.

The manager added: “Three or four weeks ago I was a bit apprehensive as to what sort of squad we would get back.

“But now I am just as excited now as I was around Christmas time last year.

“I’m really looking forward to the coming (pre-season games). They shouldn’t be read into, because it’s about finding the shape.

“Things will go wrong, we know that, and there is a few things we are going to try and some will work and some will not.

“With the players that we have got, we might give teams something to think about.”
