MARK Jermyn is waiting on three of his players to proves their fitness ahead of the Magpies’ opening league game of the season against Kettering Town at the Avenue tomorrow (3pm).

The player-manager believes his side will be the underdogs for the clash having lost to the Poppies 4-1 in the final game of last season.

But before the kick-off, the boss has a nervy wait to see whether his full squad will be fit.

He told Echosport: “We are waiting on Nick Swann, David Jerrard and Chris Dillon.

“They’re all carrying little knocks so hopefully they will be back.

“Dillon has strained his groin and we need him back because he’s a big player for us.”

Asked whether his side have a point to prove against Kettering, he added: “I don’t think so. It’s one where the new group of players have to come together.

“They are a tough outfit and my expectations of them are that they should be making the play-offs.

“We’re going to be relishing that challenge.”

Jermyn has dipped into the loan market this week, having brought in Dory Yates from Portsmouth, who will bolster the county town side in the centre of midfield and will be available for tomorrow’s match.

The manager added: “He’s a player who is versatile, so hopefully he can add something to the squad.

“He’s coming back from injury but Portsmouth think he will be a good player.

“He will get game time and for the next three months he will have to prove himself.”

Speaking about his move, Yates said: “I want to get a secure place in the team and be solid for Dorchester.

“I will bring hard work and desire to the team. I’m old school.”
