MATT Oldring feels his Dorchester Town side can build on their "gutting" 2-1 loss to rivals Weymouth on Monday.

The Magpies produced an improved display after Saturday's dismal 2-0 defeat to Cambridge City and the Avenue stalwart was pleased that the squad showed defiance at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

He told Echosport: "The manager wanted a reaction from Saturday, which he got.

“He needs that from the players every week. We know we weren’t good enough (against Cambridge) and we can build on that and go again on Saturday in the FA Cup.

“Everyone dealt well with it (the atmosphere). The players that came on had an impact and the players like Dory (Yates) and Dave (Jerrard) it was their first taste, and I think they did well."

However, despite the improvements, Oldring was left disappointed with the result in the derby.

He added: "I’m gutted. I’m gutted for the fans and for the players.

“Performance-wise, I thought we were excellent. The passion was there and we stuck to our game-plan.

“It was two lapses of concentration and two good goals from them, but other than that they didn’t really create anything.

“In the second half we were on top and we had more chances. We were unlucky not to come away with anything."

The county town side are set to face Banbury United on Saturday in the FA Cup (3pm) – the only side they have beaten this season.
