DORCHESTER Town loanee Ollie Bassett described his call-up to the Northern Ireland Under-19s as “fantastic” after a busy week for the teenager.

Last Wednesday, the 18-year-old came on as a substitute for his Magpies’ debut away at Frome Town, assisting in the visitors’ fourth and final goal.

He has now been called up for his national side for three European Championship qualifiers against Slovakia, Macedonia and Poland in a five-day period. All of the games will take place in Poland.

Speaking about his call-up, Bassett, told Echosport: “It’s nice to go and get another call and go away and play some competitive football in a different country against some good opposition. I’m looking forward to it. I want to do well and start a few games.

“To get called up again is fantastic.”

Bassett trains full time at Yeovil Town alongside his Dorchester commitments and, although he has only played one game, he likes what he sees at the Avenue.

He added: “It’s nice to and get games and it was a perfect start (against Frome).

“It’s good to play regular football against men in a competitive league.

“I’m on a month deal but when I get back from Northern Ireland duty (on October 10) then I will speak to them (Dorchester) and hopefully they will want to extend my deal by another 28 days.”

Bassett is likely to feature against St Neots Town at home on Saturday, where the home faithful will get their first glimpse of the midfielder.
