JASON Brookes is set to return to the pitch in a Dorchester shirt after serving his three-match reserve team ban that started back at the end of September.

The midfielder had to sit out not just the reserve side’s games but, also the first team’s, as he waited for Richard Robson’s team to complete the trio of fixtures.

In a rather comical situation – for everyone apart from the county town player – the ban kept on running as games were abandoned and postponed leaving Brookes twiddling his thumbs in the stands.

However, mercifully Dorchester’s 2-0 Wyvern Challenge Shield win away to Bashley on Wednesday ended his plight and has allowed him to wear the black and white stripes again.

Speaking about his time out, Brookes told Echosport: “I’ve been working hard doing extra fitness and running. But, it’s so frustrating.

“Sitting in the stands gives me a different view of the game.

“It’s a different viewpoint and when I do get the chance to come back I can give a different spin on it and help in any way I can.”

Brookes has struggled to break into the first team this season, seeing his spot in the midfield taken by loan players from Yeovil Town and Portsmouth as well as other new signings.

He added: “The management have been brilliant. They’ve all been giving me things to work on.

“It’s just unfortunate with the ban as we’ve had a few injuries.

“I’m ready to play 90 minutes and if someone is to drop out then I can step in.”

Brookes also works in the community for the club, a job he enjoys. He explained: “It’s really good.

“We have plenty going on. I really enjoy going into the schools and working with the Ability Counts team, it’s great fun!”
