DORCHESTER Town’s Jason Brookes has called on his team-mates to “rally round” in order to get a result this weekend.

The Magpies host second-placed Merthyr Town on Saturday (3pm), and Brookes is clear on how the team need to set up to nullify their threat.

He said: “Last time we played them it was tricky because they like to pass the ball around, but on our pitch it’ll be a bit of a leveller.

“We know we’re going to have to be tight and compact to start with, and make it difficult to play their game and then we can see what we can get as the game goes on.

“We tried to set up to be difficult to beat before Christmas and we had a nice run, but we all need to rally round now to pick ourselves up again, starting this week.”

Despite the current need to grind out results, Brookes was complimentary of the style of play which new manager Craig Laird is trying to introduce.

He said: “He wants us to play the right way and do the right thing, it’s just going to take time to make his mark and get the players he wants in, but hopefully he can get that going and we can start to pick up some results.”
