DORCHESTER Town captain Nathan Walker says that the whole squad need to be leaders on the pitch to help them pick up results.

Walker is expected to retain the armband going into tomorrow’s game with Merthyr Town (3pm), but has expressed the importance of working as a team.

He said: “I’ve been here for so many years and hopefully my experience as a leader will help the team.

“But even if I do have the armband, we’re all captains out there.

“If I do something wrong or I’m having a bad game then someone needs to step up. We all need to be leaders in the team.

“It’s obviously nice to have the armband but if the boss have chosen someone else I’d have been behind them 100 per cent. We’ve just got to pull together to help the younger lads.”

Walker spoke of a team building exercise on Tuesday night which was designed to improve morale among the squad going into the weekend’s game.

He said: “Nobody likes losing but we’ve been working on a few things in training and doing what the gaffer wants us to do.

“We also had a team bonding session on Tuesday after training to try and get the buzz back at the club.

“But we’re always confident going into games. You have to be confident otherwise there isn’t any point in showing up. If it’s in your head that you’re going to lose then they’re basically 1-0 up.

“It’ll be a difficult game against Merthyr, but if the boys turn up we know we can play and can get a result.”
