DORCHESTER Town boss Craig Laird has hit out at the inconsistency shown by his team after they fell to a 4-0 defeat against Slough Town.

The Magpies were beaten by the better team on the day but Laird was quick to rue the individual

errors that cost his side.

He said: “Slough are a good team and have good football players, but we made mistakes which we were punished for.

“We’re trying to stay in games to give us the opportunity to go on and win it. We set the team up not to concede and when those first two go in it kills your game plan.

“If you speak to any manager and they’ll tell you that you need to know what you’re going to get from your team each week. When you don’t know what to expect from a player it gets very hard to pick a side.

“The players are disappointed, but they should be because it wasn’t good enough.”

The frustration of the day was epitomised when Franklyn Clarke was substituted as he threw his shirt to the ground before storming to the dressing room. Laird said he has no problem with that, as long as it is respectful.

He said: “He was disappointed coming off and that’s great. The only thing I didn’t like was him throwing his shirt down because for me that’s disrespecting the fans and the shirt. I’ve had lots of players come off and kick the dugout and swear and if you give them 10 minutes they will calm down.

“He’s passionate about the game and that’s fantastic to see. I have nothing against what he did other than throwing his shirt down. We’ll chat to him and he’ll be first to apologise.”

Magpies’ boss Laird also said he was likely to make changes ahead of Monday's game against Hitchin Town (7.45pm).
