DORCHESTER Town midfielder Franklyn Clarke has spoken of his passion for the club following the superb victory over high-flying Hitchin Town on Monday.

The all-action midfielder was seen throwing his Magpies’ shirt to the ground after being substituted during Saturday’s defeat to Slough Town, but the Liverpool lad has apologised citing frustration as the reason.

He said: “When I came off and I threw the shirt on the floor, it wasn’t to say anything bad against the club, it was just out of frustration. I care about the club and I care about the people at the club, and I see how hard people work behind the scenes.

“We only train twice a week and play on Saturdays but there’s a lot of work which goes on behind that and I’m aware of that.

“When I go out on the pitch I always give 110 per cent no matter what to try and get us some points, and especially at the moment when we’re in a relegation battle. I want us to remain in the league and that’s why I reacted the way I did when I got brought off.

“I’m trying to give my all to pick up some points and I can’t affect the game when I’m on the bench, so it was just a bit of frustration.

“I shouldn’t have thrown the shirt down because it was disrespectful to the fans and people who work at the club, and I want them to let them know that I appreciate the support, and it wasn’t done to offend anybody it was just done out of frustration because it’s too big a club to get relegated. I genuinely care about Dorchester Town.”

Speaking after the match, boss Craig Laird supported his player by saying that he wants players who are passionate about the game, and Clarke has said he wants to continue giving everything for the club.

He said: “The gaffer and the club know I’m a passionate lad and a winner, I want to win.

“I want us to remain in the league and I want to be a big part of that. The remaining games are massive because we need points and we need them quick. If we all come off the pitch knowing we’ve given everything we can, then we can’t do any more than that.

“We’ve got players and I’m confident in the lads that we’ve got. We just have to battle now, not just for ourselves but for everybody at the club.”
