DORCHESTER Town goalkeeper Shane Murphy has spoken of the different atmosphere in the changing room following Monday’s vital win against Hitchin Town.

The 1-0 result made it two wins in three games for the Magpies, and Murphy has spoken of the impact it’s had on the team.

He said: “We can only take confidence from that result. We went in with a gameplan to be hard to beat, be solid at the back and take our chances, and fortunately Tom Blair did that, which gave us a cushion.

“The mood in the changing room on Monday night was fantastic, and confidence is going to be massive for us now, and we’re going into the Redditch game feeling strong.

Last Saturday saw the Magpies sink to a 4-0 defeat against Slough Town, but Murphy think the quick turnaround worked in their favour.

He said: “We knew we had to have a reaction on Monday. We needed to get something and there was a different feeling in the changing room before the game, I felt that everyone seemed prepared for it and we were prepared for a dogfight.

“Everyone played brilliantly and put in maximum effort so you can’t ask for any more from the lads. I was extremely pleased with my performance but it isn’t about me. The performance from the back four to the midfield and the work-rate up front was brilliant and everyone worked their socks off.

“It was just pleasing that I could do my bit and help us get a very valuable three points.”

This weekend’s opponents Redditch United sit just six points ahead of the Magpies in the Evo-Stik Southern League, and Murphy says the team are raring to go.

He said: “Everyone is confident, we just want to take the three points we got from Monday and turn them into six, and that could take us a little closer to safety.

“I think we’ve had to have a look at ourselves and we need to work together as a team. Realistically, our strengths are that we work hard and we can be difficult to beat. If we put that kind of performance in against anybody in the league, I fancy us to get something, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do on Saturday.”
