DORCHESTER Town boss Craig Laird was delighted to see his side extend their positive run of form with a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Kings Langley.

The game was by no means a classic, but he was pleased that his team did enough to get the much-needed three points.

He said: “The first hour wasn’t great. I was a bit annoyed at the players at half-time because we didn’t manage the game at all and gave them a couple of opportunities and got lucky not to go in behind.

“But in the second half we began to manage the game a bit better, and I said to the lads that a single bit of skill could be enough to win this game, and luckily that came from us to give us the three points.

“One piece of genius from Jonny (Vance) divided the sides, and it was his birthday too, so it was a cause for celebration all-round for us.”

Laird also praised the way his new-look side have gelled and said that he is particularly pleased with the make-up of his team.

He said: “The balance of the team is a lot better. I inherited a squad and had to sign some players to give us more strength coming off the bench.

“It’s absolutely vital to have the right player playing in the right position, whether that’s in a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3. For me it’s nice that we can play a number of different shapes and adjust our tactics accordingly, and that I can trust players coming in off the bench.

“We just look a bit more solid now, people look more confident in their positions.

“We’ve had four wins out of six which is good form now, we’re putting a little run together and that momentum will hopefully carry us into the remainder of the season, and into next year.”
