NEW Dorchester Town signing Billy Lowes feels the ambition shown by the Magpies’ coaching staff was a key factor in securing his signature for next season.

The ex-Weymouth midfielder, 20, moves across the Ridgeway to the Avenue Stadium on a one-year deal and is confident he can learn from the experienced heads around him in that time.

He said: “I believe Craig (Laird), Stuart (Heath) and Trevor (Senior) not only want to push Dorchester as far as possible as a club but want to help develop players to their full potential.

“It will be great to work with each of them and learn as much as possible.”

Lowes, who has had spells at Poole Town, AFC Totton and Wimborne Town, revealed to Echosport he was “surprised” when he got a call from boss Laird.

“Obviously I knew Dorchester was a decent club with a lot of potential so when I got a call from Craig I was surprised.

“We spoke in detail about what his plans were and what he wanted to achieve this season and I believe I can be a big part of a successful squad,” he added.

Asked whether there might be a backlash from Terras’ fans, Lowes said he had received positive messages since publicising his move.

He said: “I felt I had a close bond with many fans and from what I read on Twitter after I announced my departure it seemed a lot of them were disappointed I wasn’t staying with Weymouth but showed support and wished me well for the future.”

Looking ahead to next season Lowes, who played 44 games in all competitions for Weymouth last season, assures Dorchester fans he will be doing his utmost for the club as they seek to improve on 18th place.

“I will be giving 110 per cent each and every game.

“I’m fully committed to the club and will be working hard over the summer and hopefully I’ll get a few goals as well,” he said.
