DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson believes the Magpies will learn from their dramatic 3-3 draw at Farnborough in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier.

Thompson’s men amassed a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of a Sam Lanahan double and a goal from new signing Oliver Taylor.

But second-half goals from Perry Coles, Nic Ciardini and Connor Calcutt dragged Boro to a share of the points.

And Thompson admitted he was “disappointed” with the result but conceded the Magpies did not deserve “more than a draw”.

He told Echosport: “Obviously I’m disappointed in that we were 3-0 up at half-time and drew the game 3-3.

“For 30 minutes we were the better team but then Chris (Weale) made a few great saves before half-time.

“The one thing I didn’t want was an early goal. Really, it was tough from then on, they were in the ascendancy.

“We withstood the pressure and we had a chance to make it 4-2 but Jamie Beasley just put it past the post and unfortunately we went on to concede in the last minute from a free-kick which was bulleted in.

“I’m disappointed to draw the game but as I’ve told the lads in the changing room we can’t say we deserved more than a draw.”

Thompson also pledged to learn from the result, and will use video analysis to understand how the Magpies let slip a three-goal lead.

“I think we’ll learn from it. I’m trying desperately to get a DVD of it. I’ll watch it and the lads will watch it. Not as a punishment but just to see where we can improve,” he said.

Dorchester have now accrued four points from two games since Thompson took charge.

He said: “I’m never one to say I’ll take this or take that, it is what it is. I’d probably be more disappointed if we dominated the game and they scored late.”

Thompson was also impressed by new striker Oliver Taylor.

“He came in and he’s not been with a club this season. It’s been tough for him but he scored and did a job for 60 minutes,” he said.
