DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson is aiming to continue the Magpies’ improving league form when they make the trip to Frome Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division tonight (7.45pm).

Under Thompson, Dorchester have lost just two of nine league games, but go up against a Robins side that defeated the county town team 4-1 earlier in the season.

Speaking to Echosport, the former Woking number two is eager to “show character” to recover from Dorchester’s 2-1 FA Trophy defeat to Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

He said: “I think what we’ve instilled is a good spirit and a desire to win football matches and not lose football matches.

“We’ve moved up the table obviously, not as far as I would have liked, but two defeats in nine league games is a big improvement on where we were before.

“We’ve got to try and continue that improvement, we’ve got to show character in coming back from that Trophy defeat and we have to show character in a tough game against a physical side like Frome at their place.”

Dorchester added a striker to their ranks before the Heybridge game, with Wales under-19 international Blake Davies signing on non-contract terms.

And Thompson believes the former Forest Green Rovers and Frome man could add versatility to his forward line.

He said: “When you think that Phil (Ormrod) is the only centre-forward at the club, we do have forward players that can play in a two, but in our system of three it’s very important for that player to hold it up.

“Blake could probably play in different positions but he does like it central in a 4-3-3.”

Dorchester are set to be without Rory Fallon, who is on international duty with New Zealand, and Luke Winsper (knee) for the clash at the Special Effect Stadium.

Thompson said: “Luke probably won’t be fit for next Saturday. It’s going to be close. There’s a possibility of a week’s time but it’s more likely to be after that.

The Magpies go into the game with just one loss in their past five league away games, drawing three.

Frome, meanwhile, have won their past four league fixtures and sit ninth in the table, 10 points and 11 places above Thompson’s men.
