DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson is looking to continue the momentum when they face troubled Merthyr Town tomorrow in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division (3pm).

Goals from Billy Lowes, Sam Lanahan, David Jerrard, and Mo Baghdadi secured a 4-1 win against Kettering Town last time out, who had substitute Marshall Willock sent off 80 seconds after coming on.

Merthyr, meanwhile, suffered a 13-1 defeat away at Chesham United in a squad consisting of youth players.

The Welsh side saw 80% of their squad leave last week as the club faced a financial crisis, with the chairman resigning.

Thompson says he will not let this affect preparations for the match against the Martyrs away at Penydarren Park.

The Magpies are 20th in the table with 19 points while Merthyr sit in 13th with 26 points.

Phil Ormrod and Sam Lanahan will miss the match after picking up slight hamstring strains against Kettering.

The club are assessing them as they go and do not know if they will be available for the Magpies’ following match at Wimborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup.

Steve Thompson said: “All we can do is prepare as if we were playing the Merthyr team that lays about nine places above us in the league at the moment.

“What we can’t afford to do is to think we’re playing against Merthyr’s youth team.

“So we’ll just make sure our preparation is right.”

The club took a good morale boost from their win over then third placed Kettering Town but Thompson is cautious.

He said: “We’re not getting carried away. It’s a win and like I said we’ve become hard to beat. In the 11 league games since I took over we’ve only lost three.

“Hopefully it’ll give everyone a bit more confidence to go into the next game.”
