DORCHESTER Town loanee Kyle Egan has his sights set on emulating Exeter City team-mate Jordan Storey, who returned to the League Two club earlier in the year.

Egan, 19, and Storey joined the Magpies from the Grecians in the summer and, while centre-back Storey was recalled early from a six-month loan, Egan has stayed at Dorchester to cement his place at right-back.

Having since turned in a series of impressive displays for the Magpies, Egan told Echosport it was “a massive plus” to gain playing time at the Avenue Stadium.

He said: “It’s good, coming in on loan and getting minutes, it’s a positive for me, especially as the standard is not bad either.

“It’s a massive plus for me to get a run of games and keep playing.

“Jordan did really well on his loan here and has been playing really well with Exeter so he deserves the call back. Me personally, that’s what I’m aiming for so I can be in and around the first team – that’s the number one aim.”

Commenting on Dorchester’s 4-1 loss to 10-man Hitchin on Saturday, Egan admitted it was a “shame” that the Magpies had gone 3-0 down by half-time.

He said: “It was a very poor first half. We started quite slowly but we came out in the second half a lot better.

“The sending off helped us and then we just piled on the pressure, but it was shame that the first half was so poor for us.”

Hitchin enjoyed success by pressing Dorchester’s full-backs and, with Egan one such target, the teenager paid credit to the Canaries for their tactics.

He said: “Their front three really got after the ball and stopped us from playing forward and getting our heads up and trying to pick out Phil (Ormrod) and Lanners (Sam Lanahan) with that bit of quality.

“It was tough. They had two good wingers that got right after the ball. It did stop us from playing our sort of game, so what they did worked."

With Magpies’ boss Steve Thompson working to implement a similar pressing game at Dorchester, Egan was hopeful his side could match Hitchin’s gameplan this season.

He said: “If we can do what they’ve done, it’s a massive positive. That’s what Tommo wants us to do with the formation we’re playing, just get after the ball and hunt it down.

“It definitely makes it harder for other teams to play out.”

Egan added that Dorchester are searching for the “final product” in front of goal, with the Magpies having missed a catalogue of chances in recent games.

He said: “We’re almost falling at the final hurdle. We had a little spell where we picked up a couple of good points but then we’d just fall back and lose a few.

“Really we could do with getting more points but on the whole we’ve been decent, we’ve just got to kill it off with that final product.”
