DORCHESTER Town winger Aaron Rodriguez said making the permanent switch from Weymouth was an “easy decision to make”.

Rodriguez joins the Magpies for his second spell this season following an initial stay that yielded four goals from 11 games.

But the former Frome Town man admitted he had failed to “cement” his position at Weymouth.

He told Echosport: “I was sort of out of favour at Weymouth, I never really managed to cement myself a place there.

“Obviously I was at Dorchester previously in the season and I really enjoyed it, got on well with everybody. As soon as I heard Steve (Thompson, manager) was interested in signing me again on a permanent deal I was happy to sign.

“It was a pretty easy decision to make in the end and I’m glad to be here looking to next season as well. I’ll use the last stages of this season to cement my place here next year.

“Steve said we’ve all got a free pass to impress him and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

Commenting on his form for the Magpies during his first spell, Rodriguez said he would attempt to emulate his displays both in terms of goals and assists.

He said: “It’s not just about goals, it’s assists as well. Anything I can contribute to the team I’ll be happy with.

“I’ll do the best I can. Until the end of the season I’ll give it my all.”

Despite seeing his Weymouth career cut short, Rodriguez was thankful to the Terras for the time he spent at the club.

“They’ve got such a talented squad it’s difficult for anybody to cement a place in that team. I’ve got respect for everybody there and I’m thankful for the time I spent there.

“I was there for almost two years and enjoyed myself. They’ve just got such a talented squad it was always going to be difficult.

“I wish them all the best, Mark Molesley as well – I hope they get promoted,” he said.

Molesley said: “Rodders had a couple of personal situations where it is tough for him to train and sort of commit the time that we needed him to commit.

“At the moment where we were struggling to get him minutes and we were struggling to get him game time as well, I think it is great for both parties that he goes off and plays his football because he is a fantastic talent.

“He has got so much talent the lad and we all love the kid to bits and we want to help him out personally as much as we can so he can go out and play.

“Dorchester are getting themselves a very talented player but one that we could not probably hang on to without guaranteeing him that he would be involved. You could see how strong our bench was (against Biggleswade).”
