DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson insisted that his side “controlled large parts” of their 0-0 Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division draw at Tiverton Town.

Thompson’s men had to settle for their first stalemate of the season after wasting several chances to score.

But the Magpies were lucky not to lose the game after Tiverton marksman Levi Landricombe had robbed goalkeeper Chris Weale of possession and curled an effort wide of an open goal.

Speaking to Echosport after the game, Thompson felt Dorchester’s performance had merited taking more than a single point away from Devon.

He said: “I thought we edged it and deserved to win the game. We had six chances throughout the game, compared to their three.

“I felt we controlled large parts of the game and would have been worthy winners, so I’m a little bit disappointed but pleased with the performance. We just lacked that final finish.”

Thompson was also satisfied with a clean sheet, but was relieved to see Landricombe miss his clear-cut chance.

He said: “It’s nice to have a clean sheet. I just feel we’re controlling games more now and controlled this one and Saturday’s. Even when we’ve been winning games at home we haven’t been controlling them.

“(Landricombe) missed a couple of easy chances and you don’t want them to fall to him, but we had six ourselves. They can have no complaints. They have to be happy with the draw.”

With Dorchester’s away day displays steadily improving, Thompson drew optimism from his side’s burgeoning confidence on their travels.

“I was pleased with the performance. You have many ups and downs in football so I try not to get too down as the performance was very good.”
