DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas admitted a playing budget for next season has not yet been finalised.

The Magpies will have boss Steve Thompson on board for his first full season at the helm, with the funds made available to him a key factor in his search to build a squad of his choosing.

But Lucas hinted there were a number of other considerations to take into account before a budget could be agreed upon.

He told Echosport: “I think at the moment we’ve still got some talks on (a budget). People need to realise that from the club’s perspective we’ve got a steep learning curve coming up.

“With the increased activity with the lounge bar area and the boardroom, where there’s often something going on, we obviously need to learn quickly.”

Despite the ambiguity surrounding the playing budget, Lucas was adamant the club would support Thompson to the best of their ability.

He said: “We need to put plans in place with regards to setting up what will be an exciting chapter in the club’s future.

“We will want to support Steve the best we possibly can, and that’s what we will continue to do.”
