DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas expects manager Steve Thompson will dip into his “wealth of contacts” to secure new signings in the off season.

Thompson has made a number of recruitments during his tenure, including New Zealand international Rory Fallon, Bristol Rovers winger Mo Baghdadi and former Plymouth centre-back Callum Rose.

And Magpies’ chairman Lucas is also hoping that Thompson casts his eye over local talent as well as searching further afield.

He told Echosport: “Steve’s got a good eye with regards to what he wants to bring in to the squad now.

“He’s been in place for long enough to have a good idea of what he wants to do with pre-season coming, so it all bodes well. I’m looking forward to next season.

“I think it’s important for the club to look at promoting within. I always think it’s important that the backroom team don’t just look far away but close to hand as well.

“I think it’s important that for players who are making noises in the local area, we’ve got to be seen to be looking there.”

He added: “Steve’s got a wealth of contacts within the game. That showed with a number of loan signings.

“Every one of them became a real member of the squad and helped the team enormously, so I’m sure Steve will be using those contacts.”
