Beware of Seagulls, warns Ash

ASHLEY Vickers insists he would not trade his group of players for any other in the Blue Square South.

The Magpies’ caretaker-boss has seen his charges escape from the jaws of defeat to claim two draws in their last two outings.

And the 37-year-old believes there are plenty of positives to take into tomorrow’s proverbial six-pointer at Weston-super-Mare (3pm).

The Seagulls lie second from bottom and enter the game on the back of a miserable run of five straight defeats.

Vickers though, is warning against complacency. He said: “It’s another massive game but there are positives to take from our last two matches and we appear to have developed the ability to come back from behind.

“Having said that we don’t want to keep doing it that way, we want to try and keep a clean sheet at Weston and come back with a victory.

“Our away form has been poor but we’ve got nothing to be afraid of at Weston. They are fighting for their lives and will be keen to get some points.

“They are not on the best of runs but that means nothing when you’re playing another side down near the bottom – we won’t be taking anything for granted.”

The Magpies missed a host of chances in the 1-1 draw with Lewes on Tuesday night and Vickers is weighing up the option of making “one or two” changes.

However, he is more than confident in the ability of every single member of his squad.

He added: “I look around at other players in the league, some may be more talented in certain areas or on more money than our lads, but I’d take my group of lads any day of the week because I know they’ll give me everything they’ve got.

“There are no big-time Charlies and we’re all working towards a common goal, which is for Dorch-ester Town to be successful.

“I was happy with everyone’s performance on Tues-day night, no one had a bad game.

“There could be one or two changes but I’ve yet to decide on that.”

On the injury front, Jamie Gleeson (pelvis) and Regan Coward (back) remain the only absentees. Vickers said: “Glees is another week away but with Regan I don’t want to put any pressure on him coming back as he’s got to get his back completely right.”

Meanwhile, former Magpies Ivan Forbes, who left the Jewson Stadium in October, has been released by Havant & Waterlooville.

However, Vickers has no plans to swoop for the Portuguese winger. He added: “Not at all. We wish him well in all he does but he didn’t leave the club in the most dignified way.”
