DORCHESTER Town have beaten off the competition of several other clubs, including Blue Square South rivals Eastleigh, to secure the services of Bashley skipper Dave Allen.
The 26-year-old striker has netted 38 goals in 74 games for the Bash over the last two seasons and was generating a lot of interest among some of the top non-League clubs in the area.
However, it is Ashley Vickers who has swooped to sign a player that he hopes could be the 20-a-season goalscorer that managers crave at every level.
“We’ll have to see, time will tell with that one,” said Vickers. “If he produces 20 goals this season I will be absolutely over the moon.”
He added: “Dave has been a very sought-after striker, so getting him is a real bonus.
“He has an excellent work ethic, he’s been at the club before as a young lad and this is a huge opportunity for him. I’m so glad we managed to fight off the interest of other clubs in order to get him.
“He’s a whole-hearted player and will give us a different dimension up front.”
