Magpies' boss confident of securing Weymouth pair

Dorchester Town are hopeful of securing the signatures of Weymouth duo Stephen Reed and Sam Malsom in the next 24 hours.

Following the departure of Steve Devlin, who has joined Poole Town for an undisclosed fee, and the termination of Andrew White’s loan deal, the Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcements.

And manager Alan Knight is quietly confident of capturing the Terras’ midfield pair.

He told Echosport: “We are hoping everything will be tied down later today for both players.”

Counterpart Brendon King is already resigned to losing Malsom, after the 24-year-old missed the Terras’ 2-0 defeat at Oxford City on Saturday, but is intent on keeping Reed, who did feature at the Court Place Farm Stadium.

The latter though, has refused to be pushed on the subject.

Speaking in the wake of the weekend loss, Reed told Echosport: “A lot has been said but talks are ongoing. As far as I am concerned I am still a Weymouth player.”

Reed is currently on non-contract terms at the Bob Lucas Stadium but the club’s board is considering offering the 26-year-old a permanent deal in a bid to retain his services.

Meanwhile, Knight and his assistant Phil Simkin are edging closer to securing an extended stay for Exeter City loanee Tom Nicholls.

The former said: “Phil has been the one liaising with Exeter and we have got the impression it will be fine as long as they do not get any injuries.

“I don’t want to count my chickens just yet but hopefully we will get something sorted. If we get the chance we will extend his loan for a couple of months or until the end of the season.

“He has come in and had a go, he says he is enjoying it here and that is all you can ask.”

After a weekend without action, seventh-placed Dorchester Town return to Blue Square Bet South duty this Saturday with a trip to table-topping Woking.
