DORCHESTER Town are planning to hold further fun days after last Saturday’s proved a big hit with young fans.
Children were invited to the Avenue Stadium at the weekend to meet the first-team squad and compete with the hosts in a variety of sports.
Magpies’ manager and former Pompey gloveman Alan Knight also got involved as he came out of retirement to face a host of penalties.
The boss said: “There were a lot of kids there with their parents and it was better attended that I thought it would be given that it was a cold day in January.
“The kids took some penalties against myself and Alan Walker-Harris, while some of the other players had a go at table tennis and cricket.
“It went well and it’s something I’m sure we will look to do again in the summer.”
The only downside to the event was an injury to chairman Shaun Hearn, who donned the gloves but broke the scaphoid bone in his wrist while trying to keep out an Alan Walker-Harris’ spot-kick.
The former said: “I got a hand to it but unfortunately it had too much power. Other than that it was a really good day, we had more than 100 people there and everyone enjoyed it.”
Knight joked: “Shaun hasn’t done himself any good if he was hoping to win a contract.”
