DORCHESTER Town physio Damion Maston is swapping his sponge for running shoes as he gears up for this year’s London Marathon.
The 26-mile, 385-yard event takes place on Sunday, April 22 and Maston is already hard at work in his bid to raise as much money as possible for two worthy causes.
Eighty per cent of his donations will go to the West Dorset branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, with the remaining funds being distributed to AID International.
Aiming to fulfil a life-long ambition, Maston said: “Training is going really well. I’m out two evenings in the week and I go for a long run, between 15 and 20 miles, on Sundays with Royal Manor Portland Athletics Club.
“I’ve done a 10k, 10 mile and half-marathon races as well recently.
“I have never run a marathon before. It’s been an ambition for ages and due to the training commitment I’ve never had time to do it. However, life changes and I have the time to train now.
“I chose the Motor Neurone Disease Association as I think Liz Nelson at Whitcombe Stables, who is the head of West Dorset MNDA, does a great job.
“She owns Whitcombe Stables and supports local sport so I thought I’d give something back.”
