PATRECE Liburd believes victory over Maidenhead United will send a message to Hampton & Richmond Borough ahead of Saturday's clash.

The defender pounced to score a last-gasp winner on Tuesday night and is determined see the county town club remain in the Blue Square South despite being seven points adrift of safety.

He said: "We take every game as it is, we have got the ability to survive it's just a case of producing it on the field and I see no reason why we can't go out and keep getting three points in our remaining games.

"Everyone was disappointed after losing to Thurrock last Saturday not so much with how we played but the manner in which we lost.

"We battered Thurrock to be fair and we've done the same to Maidenhead, who did have a spell of pressure but we came through it to win the game. We need to push on now by looking to get all three points at Hampton & Richmond on Saturday.

"We should have beaten Thurrock and we could have won more of our games before that. People will see that we've won this match and the message is out there now ahead of Saturday's game.

"Hopefully this is a start and we can push on and stay up because staying in this division is the most important thing for the players, the fans and the management."

Tuesday's winning goal was his first for the Magpies since joining at the end of February, and the 20-year-old is savouring the moment.

He added: "It was a great feeling to score, especially as it was the winning goal. I think we deserved the three points overall especially after losing to Thurrock. I don't really score many goals so I will cherish this one.

"The ball got flicked on and I thought I would steady myself and just whack it. So I was pleased to see it hit the back of the net, I didn't even look at the linesman I just ran off."

Liburd's arrival at Dorchester came after he linked up with the St Kitts & Nevis squad for a 2010 World Cup qualifier against Belize.

But after losing the first leg 3-1, the Sugar Boyz could only manage a 1-1 draw in the return fixture last week and so bowed out of the competition.

Liburd said: "We haven't qualified and unfortunately I was left out of the second leg squad like most English-based players due to a change in the management. I will just try and do my best for Dorchester and hope to get another call-up."

n Portland United drew 1-1 with Dorset Senior League champions Chickerell United in a friendly at Grove Corner last night.
