SHAUN Brooks believes the Magpies are still in the mix for survival but is aware they have it "all to do".
Dorchester beat Hayes & Yeading at the Jewson Stadium on Saturday courtesy of Jon Docker's seventh goal of the season.
But although starting the day seven points adrift of Blue Square South safety the Magpies were only able to cut the deficit to six because of Maidenhead's 5-0 thumping of Bishop's Stortford.
Director of football Brooks said: "We're still in there and competing, it was three points we needed and we just want to try and get as many as we can and see where we end up.
"We've still go it all to do to survive but, as the cliché goes, we'll take it game by game. We've got three tough ones left, against Lewes, Braintree and Bromley, but we're looking forward to them. There's a good spirit among the squad so we will go to Lewes and try to put in a performance there."
The Magpies deservedly picked up their third home win in four games but Brooks was disappointed they were unable to make the task easier for themselves by getting a second goal.

He added: "It took us a little while to get to grips with Hayes & Yeading's shape but after the first 20-25 minutes I thought we were the better side.
"In the second half Hayes played with some freedom which we coped with by and large, we then had four or five decent opportunities to wrap the game up, got nervy towards the end but deserved the three points.
"It would have been nice to get that two goal cushion but we defended and competed well and if there was one team going to score then it was us.
"We bounced back from last week's blip at Hampton & Richmond but Maidenhead won which makes it more difficult for us. However, we can only take care of what we can do ourselves."
Brooks paid tribute to his goal scorer, saying: "Jon played as well as I have seen him. He was sharp with his passing, took his goal well and you always felt something was going to happen when he got the ball.
"One thing he did do, which I haven't see from him, is he competed - he chased, tracked back and it was a good all round performance."
The only downside to the victory was Patrece Liburd limping off midway through the second period.
Brooks added: "Patrece has a sore groin and we will have to look at him in the week, fortunately we have cover in that department. Danny Clay came off at half-time because he was feeling unwell but again we had an adequate replacement in James Rowe."
