Jermyn: We’ve taken too long to gel
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Mark Jermyn
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Mark Jermyn

MARK Jermyn is sad to see the season coming to an end and wishes there were more games left in which to help the Magpies stave off relegation.

Dorchester lie six points adrift of Blue Square South safety with just three fixtures to go - the first of which is a trip to leaders Lewes this Saturday.

Jermyn said: "We've had a good run of form over the last few weeks and I don't know if the penny's dropped but things seem to have come together, apart from the defeat to Hampton & Richmond.

"We've started to pick up the second balls and get on the end of things and that was lacking at the start of the season.

"As a team we've been getting stronger and it's just a pity that the season is coming to a close. If we had a couple more games it might change the outcome at the end of the season, but what will be will be.

"There's three games still to play and we'll see what we can get. Going to Lewes is a big task but football is football - you might get a result or you might not.

"St Albans beat Lewes not so long ago so it can be done, the top teams do have off days. Lewes are flying on all cylinders at the moment but if we go there with a positive attitude and try to win the game, because it's no use playing for a draw, you never know because football can be crazy."

The 27-year-old, who thought he would be ousted in the summer as the club moved full-time, is keen to move into his ninth season as a Magpie.

He added: "I don't know what the club has got in mind for next season structure-wise but I'd like to think I'll still be here. I don't really want to be moving on.

"Next season will be a fresh season for us and hopefully we can build and become a better team."

Meanwhile former Magpie Matt Groves, now with the Rooks, will be feeling mixed emotions at the Dripping Pan this Saturday.

Groves said: "It will be a bit weird for me because it's a shame what's happened to Dorchester this season.

"If we win we will get promoted and Dorchester could go down which won't be good.

"We're gunning for the title so there's little room for sentiment. If I am selected to play I will have to just do my job.

"I suppose it's all set up for me to score the winning goal for which I'd be ecstatic and sad about at the same time.

"I don't know a lot of the people at Dorchester anymore so it won't feel as weird as if the situation arose a couple of years ago. It's a shame the hard work that's gone on at the club over the past eight years or so has been thrown away in one season."

How many games did the team want to gel, 35 does seem a little profligate

It would have Gelled ages ago if Brooks had not been in charge.

Some of the Muppets he has brought in have been worse than useless.

Still I suppose it takes one to know one
