THIS year’s dominance of the Weymouth Go Spike League by Dave James and Rob Odsterczyl continued with a narrow 16-14 victory over Terry Oldrid and Craig Bishop.

This win puts the Yeovil pair 19 points ahead of their closest rivals with just three weeks to go.

Both teams had come through very close semi-finals, with James and Odsterczly beating Ali Mitchell and Jaffa Williams 21-19 and Oldrid and Bishop defeating Rob Semmance and Dom Cosserat 21-18.

Meanwhile, planning for this year’s Weymouth Classic is well underway. The 31st staging of the event takes place on the weekend of August 1-3, and once again all the top British teams are expected to be heading to the town.

There will be no qualifying event on the Friday this year because teams now earn the right to take part in the main draw through their position on the ITSU Beach Volleyball Tour.

Instead, the Classic will be holding a development tournament for players living in Dorset and Hampshire.

It is aimed at players just below England Volleyball Tour standard but who are interested in increasing their beach volleyball experience.

The men’s and women’s events start at 2pm and further details can be found on the Weymouth Beach Volleyball website.

The Classic final for men and women will be held at 3pm on Sunday, August 3 and, as in previous years, all seating around centre court will be free.
