PORTLAND’S Jay Lelliott recorded a new personal best during the heats of the 200m butterfly at the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield.

The 19-year-old produced a time of 1min 58.66secs to qualify for the final, the fastest in the heat stages.

Following his first swim, he tweeted: “Was not expecting that 200fly pb this morning! Let's see if there's quicker for the final!”

The Bath University student secured fourth place in the final last night, behind eventual winner Velimir Stjepanovic.
