AUTOBITZ 37 WATERSIDE 34

THE Premier Division’s reigning champions and runners-up met for the first time in what proved to be a very tight clash.

Waterside found their feet first and took an early lead with some accurate play.

However, once Autobitz settled they managed to steal the lead by using strong feeds into the shooters, with clinical accuracy displayed by goal-shooter Karen Hall.

The tight scoreline meant that two quick goals by Susan Lee put Waterside into the lead.

Autobitz’s goal-defence Becky Hallet showed some impeccable court work, ensuring that her side maintained possession.

Play remained goal-for-goal throughout the third quarter with each team fighting for possession on every centre pass.

With no mistakes being made and Autobitz claiming a lead of four goals, Waterside kept fighting, but it was not enough as Autobitz secured the win.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 62 WYKE SMUGGLERS 25

BOTH teams showed plenty of enthusiasm at the start of the new season.

Belle took an early lead with some superb long-range shooting from Lou Bugler and Jasmine Franklin.

After conceding more than 20 goals in the first quarter, Wyke changed their line-up for the second period, and that helped goal-keeper Eleanor Wilberforce who made several interceptions.

But Belle strengthened their lead with fast mid-court play, resulting in a 27-goal advantage at the break.

Wyke continued playing accurate netball, particularly through the centre court, but Belle had consistently increased their lead from start to finish and ended with a very comfortable win.

FITNESS WORLD WEYMOUTH 26 BOHO BEARS 17

FITNESS flew out the blocks and took a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes.

They had fluidity throughout the court and shooters Caroline Marshall and Nicky Marsh got their eye in early.

However, Boho soon gained some cohesion and by the end of the first quarter had closed the deficit to just two goals.

Both teams were playing well and with the ball frequently reaching Marshall and Marsh the Fitness World side began to extend their lead.

Strong mid-court support came from wing-defence Sammi Whisker, whose fast and precise play got the ball to the shooters.

After the first half, Fitness established a lead of seven to take into the penultimate quarter.

Boho’s defence of Lauren Walker and Laura Bucke worked hard for turnovers and rebounds in order to secure maximum opportunities for the Boho shooters.

But it was not enough as Fitness accumulated an ever-increasing lead.

The final quarter became more frantic, resulting in an end-to-end quarter that had Lauren Leatherland working hard in the Boho defence.

Although Fitness were worthy winners by nine goals, both teams produced a superb standard of netball throughout.

LUGGER INN 45 CRESTA 35

THIS Premier Division fixture saw an inter-club match open the season for both teams.

Lugger settled the quickest, and with swift passes and a successful conversion rate they took an impressive lead in the first quarter.

Cresta soon found their usual high level of play and quickly pulled things back.

Lugger shooters Elaine Robertson and Rachel Scarff showed their skill and experience by scoring at every opportunity.

Going into the second half it appeared that Cresta were on the back foot with Lugger bringing on their reserves.

Centres Jess Buckseall and Mandy Hawkins kept the match flowing, working well with their attack and defence.

The last quarter saw great interceptions by both teams and it was Lugger, on top for the majority of the match, who secured a fine win.
