DORSET Pentathletes have enjoyed another fine season and have been crowned top club in the country and Europe.

More than 50 Dorset athletes took part in the final race of the British & World Biathle Series, which was held at Greenhill, Weymouth.

The event consisted of a run/swim/run competition with distances comprising of a 500m to 1,500m run, 50m to 200m swim, followed by the same distance run again, the distances varied with each age group.

The weather conditions were perfect for racing with the sun shining, no wind, and flat calm sea conditions.

The first race was the boys and girls’ 10-and-under event.

Jake Fisher finished third in the boys’ section, with Jack Amor taking fifth. Other places were Cameron Bailey (sixth), Josh Cobb (seventh) and Rocco Taylor (eighth).

In the girls’ race, Ashia Wilson finished sixth with Anya Snow-ball (seventh), Vivian Taylor (eighth) and Lily Amor (ninth).

The 12-and-under section, is a strong age group for the club and this showed in the girls’ race with a clean sweep of the medals.

Daisy Davies took first place with Phoebe Mills taking second.

Other places were: Harriet Tuson (third), Abbie White (seventh), Rebecca Warland (eighth), Catherine Tolley (ninth), Kai Snell (10th), Elektra Covell (11th), Millie Hambleton-White (12th), Jessica Hudson (13th), Amy Norton (15th) and Gemma Wyatt (17th).

In the boys’ race, Ryan Sym-ington claimed second, while Harry O’Donoghue was fifth.

Other places went to Fred Fisher (sixth), Aurelio Calipo (seventh), Josh Dreelan (ninth), Ollie Sanderson (12th) and Thomas Bailey (13th).

The next event was the girls’ and boys’ 14-and-under races, where athletes run 500m, swim 100m, and run 500m.

Sarah Wilson took third, Elizabeth Tolley was sixth, while other places went to Portia Manson (eighth), Lucy Anderson (ninth) and Connie Baker (11th).

In the boys, race, Robert Croa-ger was fifth, while Jared Rolfe finished ninth.

In the masters’ events, the club bagged some of their best results for many years.

The competitors run 1,000m, swim 100m and run 1,000m.

In the women’s 40-plus event, Emma Fisher took gold with Laura Bratt silver, and Jane Warland, in her first biathle, finishing fourth.

In the 50-plus, Linda Williams took silver.

In the men’s 40-plus, Thomas Manson took bronze, while in the 50-plus, Mark Fisher claimed gold and Mike Covell also took first place in the 60-plus.

In the 16-and-under category, athletes run 1,000m, swim 200m and then run 1,000m and, once again, the team showed everyone a clean set of heels.

In the girls’ race, Cailin Wosika took gold with Alexandra Withey second.

Other places were: India Coop-er (fourth), Leanne Symington (fifth), Olivia Manson (sixth), Georgie Lane (seventh), Rachael Jeffries (eighth).

In the boys’ race, Elliot Laville finished second, with Jamie Price third and Alex Jefferies seventh, The event finished with the men’s and women’s race and 18-and-under youth race, that saw competitors run 1,500m, swim 200m and then run 1,500m.

Ryan Flaherty finished fourth in the youth race, while Harry Lane continued his unbeaten record to take gold in the junior men Pentathletes coach Mick Flaherty said: “Once again the team earned an impressive medal tally, winning six gold medals, six silver, and four bronze, to win six age categories out of a possible 16 and shows the club’s strength in depth.

“There was also an excellent team spirit with the side, supporting each other throughout.

“Also a big thank you goes to Kevin Good and his team at the beach office for all there help on the day and pre competition support for the event.

“This was the last biathle of the season for the club with another good turnout of athletes.

“Many of the athletes will be in the top six of the British Series and World tour series. The club have had another great biathle season with the team being top club in the country and Europe.”

The club will now be looking at entering teams in the schools and club biathlon with the South West Championships at Millfield on October 19.
