BAY FENCING 30 WEYMOUTH JNC 9

BAY Fencing overcame the Weymouth youngsters to seal the points in convincing fashion.

A low-scoring start to the match saw both teams’ defenders working well to minimise shooting opportunities.

Weymouth goal-defence Isla McCombe fought hard to keep Bay shooters away from the post.

Once Bay found their feet, centre Sandra Firth helped her team in making mid-court play more energetic as they developed a substantial 10-3 lead at the end of the first half with excellent shooting from Charlotte Reid and Claire Taylor.

Weymouth made a few changes to the attacking line-up in an effort to close the gap and were rewarded with goal-shooter Dani Beales displaying excellent movement and controlling the circle. They stayed motivated and began the final quarter with the same fire as the first.

Goal-attack, Emily Conning, passed the ball well in the circle to make space however, Bay’s combination of experience and a strong defence was too much and they increased their lead to win 30-9.

STIKA (FIRST CLASS FITNESS) 31 POACHERS INN 33

POACHERS were the more fluid and consistent side early on and shooters Lucy Rawling and Sally Mille gave them a 13-5 lead.

Although Stika were trailing they didn’t give up the fight and the defence of Claudia Crocker and Vikki Cosgrove did their best to win possession for centre Jackie Brisbane and Vicky Bailey.

Poachers led 22-11 at half-time and Stika were forced into a reshuffle when goal-shooter Karen Pomeroy sustained an injury. She was replaced by Ellen Sandrey.

Stika then gained a foothold in the game and goal-attack Julie Bell was able to claim more ball.

Excellent shooting saw Stika match their opponents but it was Poachers who edged the encounter by two at the final whistle.
