PLAYERS representing host club Bridport were among those to taste victory at South Dorset’s finals day.

Dave Roberts, Brian Iverson and Chris Thorne won the men’s triples in a close contest with opponents from Wellworthy.

The Bridport three were 12-4 up after 10 ends against N Skidmore, Dave Hanger and Joe Wahnon.

However, at the end of the 15th, Wellworthy were only one shot behind at 13-12.

Wahnon levelled the scores in the next but Thorne took one on each of the following two ends to help clinch a 15-13 triumph.

Meanwhile, Hanger (Wellwor-thy) was always in control of his men’s singles final against Mike Bailey (Melcombe Regis).

He was 10-6 ahead after 10 ends and went on to complete a 23-12 win.

Two Melcombe Regis players battled it out in the Les Dare singles. John Samways held an 8-7 advantage over Doug Plumpton 10 ends into their clash, and two counts of three towards the end saw him triumph 21-11.

P Bolch and D Gale had to settle for second place when they took on Pam Skinner and Sheena Willis in the ladies’ pairs.

It was a good match between the two Wellworthy teams, with Skinner and Willis overturning a 10-6 deficit to beat their opponents 23-14.

The fours competition was won by Greenhill’s Anne Chislett, Margaret Crawford, Mike Chislett and Ron McCarthy.

They defeated Portland Borstal Officers’ J Branny, E Jarvis J Hamilton and D Wensley 19-13.

Nothing separated the teams going into the last three ends but Greenhill had the edge when it mattered.

Harry Hovendon and Doug Obee from Greenhill took on M Bailey and Doug Plumpton from Melcombe Regis in the men’s pairs final.

In the end it was a rather one-sided affair as Hovendon and Obee raced away to win 24-10.

Sheena Willis and Ryan Stone (Wellworthy) won the mixed pairs against Anne Chislett and Mike Chislett (Greenhill) in the closest final of the event.

Facing a count of four with one wood to go on the last end, Stone drew a perfect shot to tie the match up at 15-15.

Mike Chislett won the toss on the extra end but gave the jack to Stone.

Stone was lying two shots when Chislett just missed with his last wood to leave the Wellworthy pair as the winners.
