SIAN Franklin of Wyke Smugglers bagged a hat-trick of individual awards at the South & West Dorset League’s presentation night.

While Waterside cleaned up on the team front by winning the Premier Division titles for both the winter and summer seasons, Franklin scooped a trophy treble of her own at the event, which was held at the Wellworthy Sports & Social Club.

She was named Premier Division players’ player of the year, umpires’ player of the year, and the overall league players’ player of the year.

Her team were also crowned Division One winter winners and gained recognition for their sportsmanship by receiving the Denise Camp Award, which was sponsored by the Lugger Inn.

Autobitz had to settle for the runners-up spot in the winter and summer leagues in the Premier, Cresta Leisure snatched the Division One summer title, while Loose Moose and Moby Dick’s A were victorious in the Division Two winter and summer seasons respectively.

Julien Lawes, of sponsor New Body Fitness, showed his support for the league by presenting the rest of the players’ player awards to Abbie Elliott (Division One), and Lauren Banks and Sally Miller (Division Two).

Umpires’ player awards, voted for by the officials, were presented by sponsor O Jo’s, who saw one of their own, Lauren Leatherland (Division One), celebrate alongside Banks (Division Two).

Despite being new to the league, JD Wetherspoons’ Banks earned the respect of those around her by being award the overall umpires’ player award.

A popular award winner, Mel Dive, was once again recognised for her steadfast nature and fairness in winning the Umpire of the Year accolade.

Other officials able to celebrate were Alison Holmes, Lorraine Kellaway and Kerry Hansford.

Chair Louise Bugler congratulated the trio and added how grateful she was to umpire mentor Kelly Browne.

The final accolade of the evening is always the much-anticipated Louise Beal Service to Netball Award, presented this year by previous winner Juliette Frampton.

On this occasion it went to an extremely deserving recipient in Alison Holmes, a long-standing member of the league who has served on the committee and been an established player for top team Waterside.

She has used her skills to assume one of the junior coaching roles and develop the senior players through the Back to Netball scheme.

The Three Ells Trust was the chosen charity for this year’s presentation, which featured band Seabass and the Fellas.
