FORMER Weymouth Wildcat and Poole Pirates’ hero Kyle Newman turned the clock back when the Wimborne Road daredevil successfully tore up the dirt and competed in his first motocross event for many years.

For any speedway fan, Newman is more accustomed to an ultra smooth shale oval circuit in complete contrast to the rough, tough, muddy and sandy terrain the local Tincleton circuit near Dorchester had to offer him.

The 2014 Elite League winner took to the track along with 30 other competitors in his class with the Ringwood Motocross Club, who had another huge entry of 170 competitors ranging from six year-olds on automatic 50cc machines to a 60-year-old.

Newman, the Wildcats’ fans riser of the year in 2008, had his work cut out in the first moto as deep ruts appeared with every new lap completed.

On a KTM 450 four-stroke machine, the 23-year-old was high up the leaderboard to begin with in the adult intermediate class along with Ross Walter (Lytchett Matravers), Clayton Neale (Hamworthy) and Louis Parker (Poole).

Parker eventually passed a group of racers to win to take the race while Newman completed the first race in sixth.

But the Poole speedster was astonishing in motos two and three as he tackled the sandy Tincleton terrain at ease reeling in his opponents to snatch two fantastic race wins and finish the day second overall, having accumulated 125 championship points behind Victor Porrett from Hayling Island, who scored 129.

Following the final race, Newman said: “That was tough going. I am not used to that any more but I had a fantastic day and will have to come back to help my fitness levels.”

Adult Novice A class: 1 Victor Porrett, 2 Kyle Newman, 3 Ross Walter, 4 Clayton Neale, 5 Garry Reynolds, 6 Louis Parker.
