WEYMOUTH 0 MENDIP 2

WEYMOUTH suffered an East Division League defeat against a resilient Mendip team.

The Seasiders fielded an unfamiliar squad and players were asked to play out of position.

The first period was dominated by the hosts, who created numerous chances, which were either saved by the Mendip defence or just put wide of a post and were unlucky not to make one count before the break.

Player of the match Naomi Gadian gave a strong performance in defence, reading any danger and initiating the Weymouth attack.

The second half continued in much the same way.

Frustrated by being unable to convert any chances, Weymouth’s focus dipped and the opposition pounced on a loose ball on the halfway line and scored their first following a one-on-one against Weymouth goalkeeper Laura Osborne.

Weymouth tried to equalise but were unsuccessful with numerous short corners and Mendip scored a second in the dying minutes to secure the three points.

Weymouth travel to face leaders Bournemouth II today hoping to cause an upset.

WEYMOUTH II 1 WIMBORNE WAYFARERS 3

WEYMOUTH travelled to Wimborne and, after a delay whilst waiting for a break in the torrential downpours, the game started, and Weymouth attacked hard and scored an early goal.

The Seasiders carried on fighting for possession with a strong mid-section of play, but Wim-borne equalised shortly afterwards following swift play, which caught Weymouth’s midfield and defence off-guard.

Goalkeeper Anna Neish saved a few shots but couldn’t stop some sharp-angled hits going in.

Although Weymouth saw some excellent combination play bet-ween Jo Ray and Annabel Canavan and Alice Craven and Olivia Culbreth, the Seasiders could not prevent the Wayfarers taking the spoils.

WEYMOUTH 2 SWANAGE & WAREHAM 6

AFTER such a positive performance two weeks ago, Weymouth (mixed boys and girls) started the game a little blasé, with a lack of ball pace and focus and, after the first 20 minutes, found themselves three goals down.

They quickly needed to adjust and improve their game, which they did.

The back four really had to focus on man-to-man marking, the midfield had to ensure they were involved in the marking and up front the attackers had to make themselves available.

The performance got better as the game went on, with Jamie Bellingham finding the back of the net twice. However, the Swans struck three more times to seal the victory.
