MICHAEL Watson will be aiming to rekindle memories of 2009 when he goes for glory at the Titleist PGA Play-Offs in Turkey later this month.

The Weymouth pro, who turns 45 on Saturday, won the event five years ago, before it moved to the Antalya Golf Club on the Mediterranean coast.

And there are some big prizes up for grabs if Watson can claim his second victory in the tournament, which takes place on Antalya’s PGA Sultan Course from November 29-December 1.

As well as a £2,000 first prize, the top three eligible players will qualify to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the PGA Cup against the USA in California next year.

And on top of that, the leading 10 players will get the chance to play alongside some of golf’s biggest names in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Greig Hutcheon is bidding to defend his crown after winning 2013 but, after a superb season, Wessex Golf Centre pro Watson is focused on adding another title to his collection.

“I won this tournament five years ago and I’ll be doing my best to win it again,” said Watson, who played at the Antalya club when the competition was first held there in 2011.

“I’ve played the course in Turkey before and it can be challenging off the tees.

“A lot will depend on the weather but if I’m playing well then I’ve got a good chance.

“There are some good scores to be had, though if you are off line you can pay the price.”

He continued: “I haven’t played much since our regular season finished on October 10, so it has just been a case of practising and keeping in shape.

“I’ve had a quite a few wins in Pro-Am events this year but to win the PGA South West Region Order of Merit has made 2014 that little bit better.”

Meanwhile, Titleist brand director Matthew Johnson added: “The PGA Play-Offs is a unique event in bringing the leading PGA pros together to compete for an opportunity to tee up at some of the European Tour’s biggest events including the flagship BMW PGA Championship, and we look forward to seeing an exciting conclusion to the season.”
