THE Weymouth & District League welcomed ace Matt Ware to their open day at All Saints School.

The 23-year-old, who has been ranked as high as sixth in the English men’s singles rankings, gave the youngsters some coaching advice.

Speaking about the event, league development officer Andrew Millar told Echosport: “The response was fantastic. “More than 70 players turned up through the day and it really shows that there is a demand to play table tennis among all age groups and abilities.

“Particularly pleasing was the number of primary school children that came along with their parents, showing what a great family game it can be.

“A number of adults also came along, mixed with our youth section, and played a series of friendly games.”

Ware, a full-time coach, is expected to appear on Monday to work with the league’s primary school club, which runs at All Saints School from 4.45pm to 5.45pm, costing a £1.

The league is also looking to start running social table tennis sessions for adults on Saturdays in the future.
