THE semi-finals of the Wey-mouth & District Handicap Cup will be contested by Division One’s only remaining survivor, Pilgrims A, and Division Three’s Wyke D, Budmouth D and All Saints.

Wyke D made it through with a hard-fought win over Division Three rivals Budmouth E.

April Heasman got Budmouth off to a great start by beating Rod Wyness 2-1 having had to give him a four-point start.

Ian South then drew Wyke level by beating Snigdha Maganti by the same score-line before Rog Walden beat Harriet Pullen in straight sets despite a 10-point starting handicap.

Maganti then beat Wyness to level the match up but consecutive leg wins from each of the Wyke team gave them a 5-2 win.

Reigning cup holders Bud-mouth D eased through to the last four with a 5-0 win over Division Two’s Springfield A.

Will Jolliffe, Ethan Gear and Eddie Knell all won their opening ties 2-0.

Springfield’s Steve Rook and Steve Rockett then put up some resistance by taking Gear and Knell to three sets but ultimately their defeats meant Jolliffe didn’t need to play his other two matches and wrapped up the win.

Budmouth D were joined in the semi-finals by their counterparts from Division Three, All Saints.

Higher league opposition were the victims again in the form of Preston A from Division Two.

Ben Hannigan and brothers Dan and Luke Dadds bagged 3-0 wins.

Eddie Chapman then gave Preston their only point of the match by overcoming a slim two-point handicap to defeat Han-nigan in straight sets.

Dan Dadds then put All Saints within a point of victory with a win over Roger Lovell, and what was the final match of the tie was played off scratch between Luke Dadds and Derrick Shillady.

The first set was shaded by Shillady but he lost out in an epic second set 33-31, which gave Dadds the momentum to sew up a 21-17 final set victory and send his team through.

The final quarter-final saw Pilgrims A overcome their second division opponents Spring-field B, despite only having two players on the night.

Richard Willshere and Stuart Walden put the Division One side 2-0 up with straight set wins over Mike Rich-ardson and Angela Smallbone respectively, with both overcoming handicaps in the process.

Willshere then beat Smallbone in a much tighter three-set match before Walden won his second two set match with victory over Paul Marvell.

Willshere then also beat Marvell to wrap up the tie coming from a 0-11 handicap down to win 21-12 21-16.
