BEN Ward may have beaten three-time world champion John Part at Barnsley Metrodome, but the Dorchester ace was far from happy with his game during three days of darts in South Yorkshire.

Ward beat Canadian Part 6-1 in the second of two PDC European Tour qualifiers before being knocked out by Wales’ Gerwyn Price.

And sadly for 26-year-old Ward, that defeat of the man who won world titles in 1994, 2003 and 2008, was the only highlight of his time in the north of England.

He lost his first match in each of the three other events to take place over the weekend, with Robbie Green getting the better of him twice.

“I suppose John Part is the biggest name I’ve beaten but he is someone whose career is on the way down now,” he told Echosport.

“The scoreline flattered me a bit and it was a terrible game, I just happened to hit my doubles when I had the chance.

“It was probably the worst game I’ve ever won in the PDC.”

He added: “The week before the UK Open at Butlins I felt really confident.

“And even though I lost in the second round I knew my game was there, but it just didn’t happen for me in Barnsley.”

Ward is back in Barnsley on the second weekend in April for the next set of Players Championship tournaments.
