BUDMOUTH B were confirmed as Division Two champions of this season’s Weymouth & District League.

They completed their undefeated title success with a 26-10 win over Preston A in which Ben Graham also kept his unbeaten record intact, but only just against a spirited Preston team.

Graham was taken to five sets for only the second time this season in his very last singles match by Preston’s Simon Green.

Graham eventually won the final set 11-5 to preserve his 100 per cent winning record.

Budmouth C all but wrapped up the runners-up spot in the division with a hard-fought 22-17 win over Springfield A. It was Springfield’s Mike Page that top scored on the night.

Shipton Gorge B secured a top-three finish with one match to play after a 25-11 win over Preston B.

Derek Wheeler top scored for Shipton with nine points and Josh Harman secured six of Preston’s points but the match of the night was Brian Cammell’s dramatic win over Ros Page.

Cammell won the first two sets 11-8, 16-14 but Page hit back with two sets of her own 13-11, 11-8.

That was just the appetiser for an incredible 17-15 final set, which Cammell just sneaked.

A nine-point hall by Dave Glanville was not enough to stop Preston falling to a 23-14 loss to Colliton C in a bottom of the table clash.

Land Registry had a tricky match on paper against Budmouth A in Division One and although they ran out 26-12 winners, the score did not really reflect how tough the victory was to achieve.

Brad Burroughs was drafted in from Budmouth B to play for Land Registry and, in his Division One debut, he held his own and scored a very respectable eight points.

His only loss was a 12-10 final-set defeat to Sam Millar, who also went to five sets against his dad Andy, having come out on top 12-10 in the decider.

Two victories for Budmouth D kept up the pressure on All Saints in the Division Three title race with a 24-11 win over Pilgrims B followed by a 27-9 victory over Preston D.

Will Jolliffe, who along with Graham remains undefeated this season, scored a full nine points for Budmouth in both matches.

All Saints beat Preston D with an emphatic 30-3 victory on the previous evening.

The students impressed against an experienced Preston team and won all ten matches on the night.
